Haugh of Urr Residents Take Action Over Road Safety

Residents in Haugh of Urr are taking action over road safety after holding a road safety day that took place on Sunday.

Local people have become increasingly concerned about the volume and speed of traffic passing through the village to get to Dalbeattie or as an alternative to the A75.

The event, which was attended by local MSP Finlay Carson, representatives from Dumfries & Galloway Council, the Forestry Commission, Blood Bikes and lorry drivers, as well as many people from the local community, was used to highlight the importance of road safety to both road users and pedestrians.

Commenting, Finlay Carson MSP said:

“This was a fantastic event and I would like to commend those in the community who organised it, I am sure they will be delighted with the fantastic turn out for such an important cause.

“I welcome the steps taken by Dumfries & Galloway Council to increase the safety of the road going through Haugh of Urr, including new speed display signs. However, there is still much more that needs to be done. For instance, Haugh of Urr would be the ideal candidate for a 20mph ‘twenty’s plenty’ scheme.
“Having spoken with constituents I have written to Transport Scotland regarding the A75 junction, a major safety concern for road users. I will continue to press this government for much more investment into the road networks in South West Scotland, which have been neglected by this SNP government for far too long.”
