ScotRail took almost 15,000 Euro 2020 football fans for free to the four tournament games played at Hampden Park.
And, the train operator is praising supporters for their excellent behaviour while queuing for the train shuttle services between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida.
Supporters with a valid match ticket were entitled to complimentary travel to each of the four matches played at Hampden Park during the competition.
Last night’s Round of 16 encounter between Sweden and Ukraine, which resulted in a 2 – 1 extra time win for Ukraine, was the final leg of the offer which was available thanks to a partnership between the train operator, Glasgow City Council and UEFA.
ScotRail ran 21 shuttle services over a three-hour period before the games, allowing fans to travel for free by showing their match ticket.
Supporters had been urged to arrive early to make sure they left plenty of time to travel as there was limited capacity on train services to and from the match because of COVID-19 guidelines on maintaining physical distancing.
And, they were being advised to make sure they had planned their onward journey home from Glasgow Central following the games with late kick offs, and not to expect trains to take them back out of the city.
ScotRail’s alcohol ban was in place during the tournament and British Transport Police had a strong presence at Glasgow Central and Mount Florida to enforce the policy as well as to make sure people in train queues were being patient and following physical distancing rules.

“We’re really pleased supporters followed the widely publicised advice from ScotRail to arrive early to catch their shuttle train to Hampden.
“We managed to take nearly 15,000 fans to the four games for free without any significant problems.
“It’s just a shame Scotland weren’t able to make it into the knockout rounds of the competition. But, there’s always next year’s World Cup to look forward to!”
