Fungi Photo Makes it into Top Three of Scottish Nature Photography Awards For Duncan

Local Award winning Photographer Duncan McNaught from  New Galloway near Castle Douglas has recently received the fantastic news that one of his images has won 2nd prize in the botanical section of the The Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2017. The awards celebrate nature, wildlife and landcape photography in Scotland.
Duncans Image is named “Natures Umbrella”, He Said ” This shot was easier than some of my fungi images to shoot, growing at almost head height on an old fallen tree trunk, the sun was low in the sky being late autumn which provided me with almost perfect conditions to take this shot.”
Duncan continued “As a nature photographer living in rural Southwest Scotland I have access to an abundance of wild places, forests, lochs streams and burns all within a short distance from my home.
Its not everyone’s idea of fun crawling about on your hands and knees in deep dark forests carrying a heavy camera bag, however its these places I find the different and sometime extraordinarily to photograph.
Fungi often overlooked by the casual passer by, I find fascinating to photograph, never easy as most grow low to the ground, however this particular shot was easier than some. Almost at eye level with late Autumnal sunshine filtering through the trees it provided me with almost perfect conditions to take the shot.”
