Expanding Stranraer marina is central to the vision of regenerating the town, particularly the East Pier redevelopment and could potentially create 31 jobs; 22 full-time, 4 part-time, and 5 seasonal.
Following extensive consultation with the public and stakeholders, Wigtown Area Committee is being asked to recommend to the Council’s Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee that Option 3b2 is developed through a full business case.
As a result of the consultation, option 3b2 emerged as the most complementary to adjacent development and the one seen to maximise the use of associated development on the reclaimed land. It was also felt that it will generate the most commercially viable marina development and have the greatest impact on the wider regeneration of the town.
Councillor Marion McCutcheon, chairman of Wigtown Area Committee, said, “Building the local economy is the number one priority for our Council. Developing the Stranraer waterfront is key to the regeneration of the town. Expanding the marina is a vital component. There are sound business reasons for this, including bringing more visitors to Stranraer, generating business, and creating employment.”
