Volunteers and employees at the Furniture Project have been making the 300 Lanterns from wood and materials which have been kindly donated from both Cruden and Jewson’s. The talented volunteers have also been making a new Santa’s Post Box which will be situated at the Castle Square for everyone who wants to write to Santa. The Christmas Wish Tree will also be there for anyone who wants to add their Christmas Wishes.
Morrisons have also donated all of the sweets for the Santa Float as well as hosting their Annual Giving Tree in the Store which will be in place until 14 December in aid of Operation Christmas Stocking.
Councillor Marion McCutcheon, Chair of Wigtown Area Committee said;
”We are all incredibly excited about the start of the Christmas Events Programme this year and hope that as many people as possible will come out and attend our events over the following weeks. We are really pleased that we are one of the first places in Scotland to host the open air Disney Sing-A-Long of Frozen so wrap up warm and come and join us”.
Glenda Dewar, Project Manager from the YMCA Stranraer said;
“Stranraer YMCA and Stranraer and Rhins Young Farmers would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in the Santa Float Project. It would not have been possible without all the support we have had. A massive thanks to the Apex U Turn volunteers who constructed the new Stranraer Santa Float with over 980 voluntary hours being put into the project.”
Organisers would also like to say a big thanks to Scott Richardson for setting up the lights and music on the Santa Float, Shire Agri Hire (Glenluce) for providing this year’s tractor and Stuart Ramsay for again providing his trailer.
The Stranraer Santa Float Project has allowed not only partnerships that have already existed to grow but also new ones have been formed.
