Taiwanese representatives visit Dumfries & Galloway
The Crichton Institute hosted a visit to Crichton Campus by The Director and Director-General of Taiwan’s Representative Office in the UK on Friday as part of a short tour of Dumfries & Galloway organised by South of Scotland MSP Dr Aileen McLeod.
Marc Su – Director General and Peter Chia-yen Chen – Director, were invited to Dumfries & Galloway by Dr McLeod as an opportunity to show Taiwan’s official representatives to Scotland and the UK what the region has to offer in its academic experiences, food and drink, economic development opportunities, tourism, cultural experiences and landscape.
Commenting following the visit, Dr McLeod said:
“I am always keen to promote the region to a wider audience so when I discovered that Peter and Marc had not been to the South of Scotland I wanted to have a chance to show them the Crichton as well as taking them on a short tour through Galloway.
“From the unique combination of learning institutions and research bodies at the Crichton Campus to the region’s fantastic food and drink and the wide variety of experiences and activities that the region has to offer the visitor, we have much to offer which deserves to be more widely known.
“I hope today’s experience will help to promote our region to Taiwan and build on the links that already exist between our countries.”
Dr Carol Hill, Director, Crichton Institute said:
“This was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Crichton Institute and to raise international awareness of the unique nature of the collaboration between the academic institutions on the Crichton campus. I anticipate that today’s visit will mark the first step in a fruitful relationship that will benefit the economy and culture of the region.”
