Guid Nychburris 2015
Taking part in the Parade
Taking part in the Parade is really easy, and there are three ways that your community group, school, or business can register to take part.
1. Online by going to the Electric Theatre Workshop website (www.electrictheatreworkshop.com) and follow the Guid Nychburris link to register to take part.
2. In Person at Electric Theatre Workshop, 28 Munches Street, Dumfries
3. Or by phone 01387 271820
For the first time – there will be no categories, because we want to make it a really fair and open celebration of our community here in Dumfries. There will be Awards which will be judged by artists from Dumfries & Galloway, but our focus this year is on getting as many people to take part, rather than on judging their creativity.
Parade Theme
This year’s theme is Brighter Futures, and groups are asked to think about responding to the overall theme in as creative way as possible. We like this theme idea as it has a really optimistic feel to it, and it means we are looking into the future. You can make your entry fit into the overall theme, or if you have had another idea – can enter that without sticking to our theme. Groups will be split into walking or float entries.
How to register
• A Float
Traditionally a float was a lorry that was donated by one of the local haulage companies, and these are then decorated by your group to drive through the Parade. Floats are anything which is moving through the Parade that does not have two feet, and if you have a look at the video on www.electrictheatreworkshop.com you will see that the Guid Nychburris Parade has a history for a wide range of different floats.
• A Walking Group
Dancers and majorettes have traditionally entered this category, and if you can put some loud music near you – this can look very effective for the crowd.
• Vehicles
Vehicles which are not decorated but are of historical or vintage interest
