Temporary Buildings Key to Redevelopment of St Joseph’s College

St Joseph’s College in Dumfries is undergoing major redevelopment as part of the Dumfries Learning Town project.

The historic buildings will be refurbished while other buildings will be demolished and replaced with new builds. The result will be a learning campus that is fit for purpose in the 21st century.

To facilitate the redevelopment, over the next 18 months, pupils have been decanted into temporary buildings on the site.

Staff and pupils moved into the temporary accommodation for the start of the new term and have settled in well.

Councillor Jeff Leaver, chairman of the Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning (CYPLL) committee, said, “Providing the best start in life for all our children is a priority for our Council. The Dumfries Learning Town project demonstrates our total commitment to delivering school facilities that are fit for purpose in the 21st century. Obviously, the scale of the work being done on a site such as St Joseph’s College involves disruption for pupils and staff. However, these temporary buildings provide an ideal temporary solution and mean that the disruption has been managed and minimised. Well done to all involved in delivering this solution.”
