Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Building Cleaning team from across the region have scooped a top award at a national awards ceremony.
The APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Soft Facilities Management Innovation Awards 2023 celebrate outstanding local councils that utilise innovative ideas and solutions to address the current challenges facing their frontline soft facilities management services.
Our Council has been awarded the APSE Soft Facilities Management Innovation Awards 2023 for the introduction of cleaner and green chemicals and cleaning equipment. Our Council’s Facilities Services have been supporting the Council Priority to “urgently respond to climate change and transition to a carbon neutral region” by introducing cleaner and green chemicals and equipment. By upgrading the cleaning equipment, Facilities Services was able to save money on long-term maintenance costs as well as energy costs.
The winners were announced at the APSE Facilities Management Seminar on 26 January at Oulton Hall Hotel in Leeds, alongside the winners of APPG on School Food Excellence in School Food Awards. More information on submissions for both the APPG and Innovation Awards can be found on the APSE website.
APSE Chief Executive, Mo Baines, said, “After what has been a challenging few years for the school food and building cleaning industry, it was fantastic to see such impressive submissions. However, this also made it exceptionally hard to select finalists. To the winners, your inventiveness in the face of such difficulties is simply outstanding. You are a credit to your local councils and the local communities you serve.”
Cllr Katie Hagmann, Chair of the Dumfries and Galloway Council Economy and Resources Committee, said: “This award is a very well-deserved recognition of the dedication, attention to detail, and exemplary performance of the Buildings Cleaning team. I am thrilled that the team won this award. It is an outstanding achievement that acknowledges the team’s hard work and dedication to greener cleaning.”
Cllr Sean Marshall, Vice Chair, said: “I extend my congratulations to the team that has received this award, it is a testament to the commitment of our teams to excellence and innovation. This is a fantastic honour for the Buildings Cleaning Team who I know do a fantastic job for our Council throughout the region and is thoroughly deserved.”
