Upcycling at Lochside Family Centre

Lochside Family Centre have been hosting a series of free upcycling and repair workshops over the last month, helping local people to repair and re-imagine their unwanted clothes into something new.

The workshops are part of the Stove Network’s Bounce Back project, led by Stove Curatorial Team Member Martin Joseph O’Neill. The project is supported by the Development Trust Association Scotland and aims to support community initiatives to help empower people living in the communities of North West Dumfries, as well as support those who have been affected by benefit reform.

The Bounce Back project has been popping up in and around North West Dumfries over the past few months, including film screenings and the launch of the Ignition Fund, as well as supporting other events in the Lochside and Lincluden areas. The Upcycling workshops began a month ago and run every second Thursday at the Lochside Family Centre. During the workshops, participants are given the opportunity to share skills and ideas with others.

The next workshop will be on Thursday 7th September at the Family Centre in Lochside from 1pm until 4pm. Professional up-cycler and fashion designer Rose Hall will lead the workshop, helping you to transform your old clothes into something spectacular! No experience is needed, as full professional support will be provided. LIFT (Lochside is Families Together) will also be running a clothes stall at the Family Centre with every item on sale for just £1. Sewing machines, materials and tea and coffee provided!
