Update Issued on Singleton Park Care Home Covid Outbreak

Following an outbreak of COVID-19 at Singleton Park Care Home in Courance, Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership has been working to ensure all necessary plans and protocols are in place to manage the outbreak.

As soon as the outbreak developed, immediate action was taken including additional testing, a full decontamination of the home and implementing a number of additional robust infection control measures.

With a delay to the documenting of one test result conducted at the same time as others within the care home, the number of cases now stands at a total of 11 across staff and residents.

Very sadly, within the past week a resident at Singleton Park Care Home has died within 28 days of a positive COVID test.

A spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership said: “This outbreak has resulted in a very dedicated response from staff, which is currently comprised of Singleton Park staff working alongside staff drawn from the Partnership.
“The outbreak demonstrates again how highly transmissible the COVD-19 virus is.
“Everyone should be conscious that COVID-19 can result in mild symptoms, and sometimes none at all. This can mask its spread to more vulnerable individuals where it can pose a very significant risk.
“Following the guidance around appropriate wearing of face coverings, hand hygiene, considering our social interactions, regular testing and getting vaccinated remain vital in reducing risk – but these are by no means an absolute guarantee of protection. These tools are quite simply the best measures which currently exist to help reduce the risk as much as possible, and help limit the spread of the coronavirus.”

Symptoms of COVID-19 are:

  • Raised temperature
  • New, continuous cough

Change to or loss of sense of taste and/or smell.

It is essential that anyone who experiences an increased temperature, continuous cough and loss of or changes to sense of taste and/or smell immediately self-isolates and arranges to be tested for COVID. Self-isolation is crucial until a result is provided, so as to ensure that any further spread of the coronavirus is limited.

No one should be blamed for developing COVID, but it is everyone’s responsibility to minimise the risk and to immediately take the correct action if they become symptomatic.
