POLICE Officers in Sanquhar are appealing for the community to help identify those responsible for an act of vandalism at the war memorial in the town. About 2pm on Tuesday 6 March 2018 a report was received by police that the statue of the woman sitting on the bench at the war memorial in the town had been vandalised. On attendance it was noted that the statue had been daubed with paint and that a number of poppies had been pulled from the ground and strewn around.
Constable Leanne Hamilton said “it seems incredible and very sad that anyone would contemplate carrying out such a wanton act of vandalism. The community will be rightly outraged by this act and I would ask that anyone who has any information about who carried out this act call us at Sanquhar on the 101 number, quoting the reference PDG 0046770318.”
