Weeping Windows Display Moves to Stranraer Museum

Last year a group of enthusiastic local people decided it would be a wonderful idea to create a Weeping Windows Display for the Castle of St John, for the 100 years commemoration of the First World War in November 2018.

This was a vast challenge, so they created an appeal for help from knitters and crocheters from Stranraer and its surrounding area to make as many poppies as they could for the waterfall.

Councillor Andy Ferguson, who is Chair of the Council’s Communities Committee said;
“A great deal of time and work went into achieving this grand design.”

Over 13,000 poppies were created for this phenomenal display which was hanging from the Castle of St John in November. Currently, they are on display in the gallery at Stranraer Museum in all their magnificent glory until the 16th February, where you can get up close and maybe even identify your own handiwork.

“It is a wonderful idea for the waterfall to be re-displayed in the museum.” stated Councillor John Martin, who is Vice Chair of Communities Committee

Alongside the poppies is an exhibition of remembrance from collections of photographs from Annan Museum. This shows how people at the time chose to remember the First World War, even when there were great restrictions in place.
