Celebrating The Wild Autumn Festival (9-26 October) Castle Kennedy Gardens is offering some fun activities for all the family before the winter sets in and the Gardens close for winter.
Kids can become cavemen and join a Painting with Earth session on Wednesday 14 October finding natural colours from what they find in the ground to create some modern day earth art. Visitors can enjoy delicious, homemade cake and a hot drink before choosing to join an afternoon Garden Ranger Minibeast Adventure, to discover fascinating bug life.
The changing face of Castle Kennedy Gardens will be highlighted on Wednesday 14 October when an Autumn Glory Guided Walk is led by our Head Gardener to experience the formidable fall.
Pond Dipping has proven incredibly popular this year and our last of these sessions runs on Sunday 18 October when we discover what’s lurking in the dark waters of the White and Black Lochs that surround the Gardens. And in the afternoon our Ranger will be using some of the great, natural colours from our plant life and encouraging the kids to create Mud Faces.
Building Tepee Shelters and dens has been another really popular introduction into our events programme this year and will conclude the Garden Ranger events on Wednesday 21 October.
A range of exciting arts, crafts and food stalls will be available in the Christmas Marquee at Lochinch Castle and inside the Victorian Carriage Houses at this year’s Lochinch Castle Charity Christmas Fair event on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November. Santa’s Grotto, seasonal music and hot food will be on offer, topping off what promises to be a magical time in an atmospheric location with local charities, the Coronation Day Centre and Home-Start Wigtownshire, benefiting from a percentage of the proceeds.
All Garden Ranger activities begin at Castle Kennedy Ruins with activity sessions running from 11:00am – 12:30pm & 2:00pm – 3.30pm included in the admission cost. The Autumn Glory Guided Walk runs from 2.00pm -3.30pm and cost £2 plus admission, offering participants a hot drink and delicious slice of homemade cake.
Activities should be booked in advance if possible. Outdoor clothing is recommended and children must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors are welcome to attend one or both Garden Ranger sessions on the same day.
