Free event brings together more than a dozen of the top wildlife organisations in the region plus wildlife artists and craft makers
Conservationists, filmmakers, photographers and wildlife tour operators are coming together for the Wild Film Fayre, a free event at the heart of Wild Film Festival Scotland.
The public will have a chance to meet to some of the speakers from the festival and find out more about their work. Appearances include TV presenter Simon King (Big Cat Diaries) who will be signing copies of his new book, Nature Watch: How to Track and Observe Wildlife.
Sid Ambrose, Festival Producer, said: “The festival is a packed weekend of events that connect people with the nature around them. The Wild Film Fayre is a fantastic opportunity to find out about the natural wonders the region has to offer and how they can get involved.”
As well as national organisations such as RSPB, British Trust for Ornithology and National Trust for Scotland, organisations attending from across Dumfries & Galloway include:
- Photographers Leeming + Paterson, based in Castle Douglas
- Stargazing Scotland, who operate stargazing and astrophotography tours at the Galloway Forest Park
- Nocturnal Wildlife Tours, who use hi-tech equipment to reveal the wonders of the natural world at night
- Caerlaverock WWT Wetland Centre, one of the region’s top wildlife watching destinations.
- Dumfries-based videography company, Stage Two Imaging
- Lockerbie Wildlife Trust, who manage the Eskrigg Nature Reserve, home of red squirrels
Making the Most of Moorlands, a project to help people engage with this under-appreciated habitat
Brian Morrell, Centre Manager at WWT Caerlaverock, said: “With the Wild Film Festival fast approaching, we are looking forward to taking part in the Film Fayre, meeting people and telling them about the amazing wildlife that can be experienced at WWT Caerlaverock and throughout Dumfries and Galloway.”
Local craftmakers and artistss will also be selling their wildlife-inspired work at the event.
Entry to the Wild Film Fayre is free. It runs from 24 to 26 March at the Theatre Royal Dumfries.
Some 30 films are being screened during WFFS, many of them winners of coveted Wildscreen Panda Awards (the wildlife Oscars). Naturalists and broadcaster Iolo Williams (Springwatch) will be among the 20 speakers.
