Police Scotland have reported that at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, 31 March, the body of a woman was recovered from the shoreline near Balmae, near Kirkcudbright.
Formal identification has still to take place, however the family of Joyce Kirkland (72), who has been missing from her home in Kirkcudbright since Friday, 12 March, has been informed.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact cause of death, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
A full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.
