To celebrate Scotland’s Year of Young People, Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate has launched its community bursary fund for 2018 with a focus on local youth groups and clubs.
The initiative will see £500 awarded to a community group based in Nithsdale or Upper Nithsdale which is in need of a financial boost – with this year’s funding earmarked for an organisation which primarily works with, or benefits, local children.
Amongst those to benefit from the bursary in previous years are the Dumfries and Galloway Physical Disability Athletics Club and Thornhill Beavers who used their allocation of funds for new equipment. Upper Nithsdale Football Club and Young Saints Rugby Club both previously received new strips thanks to the bursary and Therapy Dogs and Learners Together also received a donation last year.
Claire Oram, Castle Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “We are delighted to launch our community bursary fund for 2018 and open applications to groups of all sizes in the local area.
“With 2018 being the Year of Young People, we felt it was a perfect fit to focus on the great youth organisations and groups locally in need of a financial boost.
“Community engagement is really important to us so we’re really looking forward to reading the applications and assisting groups that benefit the local area.”
