A silent production of Shakespeare’s tragic Scottish king takes centre stage on 6 August as DG Arts Live continues its mission to bring quality live performing arts to venues across the region.
Edinburgh-based theatre group Ludens Ensemble will give its silent stylised performance of Macbeth: Without Words in Dumfries’ Theatre Royal. The group works with live music, masks, puppets, projections and animation.
Drawing from physical theatre, German Expressionism and the Brechtian Epic Theatre as well as silent cinema, the theatre company will present the tale of Shakespeare’s tragic monarch through a combination of projections, a live DJ set and surtitles.
The performance features three actors who impersonate all characters in the play. Dressed in modern costume and in Pierrot-like make-up, the actors constantly switch characters. Minimalist and cellophane covered sets, together with the aid of projections and the use of a smoke machine, evoke the sensation of a dream on stage.
Macbeth: Without Words will be staged at the Theatre Royal, Dumfries, on Saturday, 6 August, at 7.30pm.
Tickets for both plays from the Midsteeple Box Office on 01387 253383.
