The Old Well Theatre in Moffat is screening ‘Akong – A Remarkable Life’, a film about Akong Rinpoche directed by a Brazilian, Chico Dall’Inha, on Sunday, August 13th.
Akong Rinpoche fled Tibet as a young man in 1959 when China invaded that country. His is a positive refugee story. After his perilous escape he went on to do many incredible things. He established the first Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the West – Samye Ling – set amongst the hills of Eskdalemuir valley. The monastery has grown from its small beginnings in 1967 to become a thriving community and is a centre for the preservation of Tibetan Buddhism, arts, medicine and culture. The magnificent temple is well worth a visit. Akong did many other wonderful things with his life and is an inspiration to many.
Following the screening there will be a talk about the humanitarian works funded by the proceeds of the film. Executive Producer, Vin Harris, will be hosting a question and answer session. Vin is well known to many in Moffat due to his involvement with Moffat Golf Club.
