“DGMA’s Yen Hongmei Jin summons Fire Monkey for Chinese New Year 2016”
A celebration of anti-sectarianism marks a stand against prejudice in the region – Yen Hongmei Jin, Chairwoman of Dumfries & Galloway Multicultural Association has brought together the forces of art and expression, working closely with local talent to express a message of union and peace towards the folks of Dumfries.
The Chinese New Year celebrations 2016, funded by Youth Scotland and the People’s Project and is sponsored by many local businesses and organisations. It begins on Tuesday 23rd of February 5pm at the Mid Steeple. The festivities will commence with a grand parade through the town centre where the people of Dumfries will be treated the spectacular sight of the traditional Lion Dance.
At 6pm the evening will continue at the DGMA in Old Assembly Street, an indoor of entertainment will unfold all with messages of hope and unity, including music, comedy, magic and dance as well as traditional food generously provided by the Chinese community.
DGMA’s Yen says ‘This is a very exciting event, the fourth Annual Chinese New Year celebrations we have organised, we hope to engage with the people of Dumfries to come together and celebrate Chinese New Year, to show solidarity and to stand up to sectarianism.’
