National touring theatre company, The Three Inch Fools, will entertain visitors to Drumlanrig Castle this summer with its fast-paced and musically driven performance of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
Five actors, with all manner of musical instruments and plenty of character-swapping, will present an inventive take on Shakespeare’s Hamlet with the spectacular Drumlanrig Castle as a backdrop on Sunday 29th July.
The Three Inch Fools specialise in bringing Shakespeare to life in innovative and unexpected ways. Thanks to the work of award-winning composer Stephen Hyde, original music plays a central role in this production. This cleverly helps to elevate Shakespeare’s text from the page, and recreates the same dynamic atmosphere that Elizabethan audiences would have experienced.
James Hyde, Co-Founder and Director, said: “We want to show Shakespeare off to everyone and excite a whole new generation of Shakespeare lovers to get to know his plays in all their vibrancy. Through our own high-paced performance style and musical talents we would say we have found our own unique take on Shakespeare.
“Over the years, we have performed in venues ranging from castles and cathedrals to bookshops and seaside piers – all the world’s a stage. We’re particularly excited to be returning to Drumlanrig Castle this year with one of Shakespeare’s best-known plays.”
Claire Oram, Castle Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “It’s great to welcome The Three Inch Fools back to Drumlanrig this summer. Their performances are always full of energy and enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
“As this is an outdoor show so we would encourage visitors to bring something to sit on, and remember to wrap up warm.”
The Three Inch Fools will perform Hamlet at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate on Sunday 29th July at 6pm.
Gates open from 5pm and audience members are invited to arrive early, and bring a picnic to enjoy alongside the performance.
Tickets cost £14 (£10 under 18s; £6 under 10s) and are available by contacting 01848 331555.
