The Kirkton Old Tyme Dance Group recommence their classes in Kirkton Village Hall on Thursday 13th September for their winter session.
The group now in their 26th year are looking for new members to come along and join the regulars to keep the classes and the group thriving for many years to come.
Group organiser John Caskie MBE will again instruct the dancers of the various dances from the old tyme, ceilidh and Scottish country dance repertoire, while music will be provided by William McRobert from Moffat on Accordion along with Ian McRobert on the drums. There is no joining fee, admission is £4.00 each night which covers the hire of the hall, the live music and half-time refreshments.
With some of the dancers now retiring after many years of dancing and attending the Kirkton class, John and his fellow members would love to see some new faces (young or old!) join the group, which is renowned as ‘the friendly dance class’ where a warm, friendly welcome awaits anyone who wants to come along and ‘have a go’.
The format of the evening is walk through, guide through and dance as many of the dances as possible each night with new dances interspersed by some of the old favourites that group have danced since they started way back in 1992. Although numbers attending is less than the 100 plus dancers that used to meet every Thursday night at Kirkton, John is confident that new members will come along and boost the numbers for the winter session ahead, everyone is welcome!
The classes commence at 7.30pm through until 10pm each Thursday and will run from 13th September until Thursday 6th December when the group will host their Christmas Party to bring the curtain down on their season and the 26th year of the group.
