The Scottish International Airshow is delighted to announce the Icons of modern Scottish design, The Kelpie Maquettes, are visiting Ayr Low Green over the 2nd and 3rd of September 2017.
The stunning Kelpie Maquettes will be a popular attraction to the many ground displays and activities over The Scottish International Airshow, now in its 4th year. Located on Ayr Low Green, overlooking the picturesque Firth of Clyde and Isle of Arran, the Kelpie Maquettes will be a great spectacle along with the famous air displays as The Scottish International Airshow rapidly becomes Scotland’s best family event.
The three metre high sculptures were hand crafted by renowned Scottish sculptor Andy Scott, and were used as models to create the world’s largest equine sculpture, The Kelpies, situated in Falkirk. The set visiting the airshow are the first Kelpie Maquettes created to interpret the sculptor’s original vision and design for the larger Kelpies sculptures which were later constructed and opened in 2014 . The Kelpie Maquettes tour the world helping to promote Scotland and the Falkirk area as visitor destinations.
Director Doug Maclean commented; “We are working together to ensure Ayrshire and Scotland is recognised as a global destination of choice. We are already giving people a unique event experience bringing the airshow to these shores. With diverse ground displays and trade opportunities, various activities from virtual reality to family fun and sky-high aviation spectaculars to look forward to, by bringing The Kelpie Maquettes to the airshow, we are again adding to the dynamic as well as offering the local community and far travelled visitor the opportunity to see these magnificent sculptures and to help promote more of what Scotland has to offer.”
Doug stated that “we could not run the The Scottish International Airshow without tremendous support and sponsorship from our leading partner South Ayrshire Council We also receive tremendous backing from EventScotland, global aviation giants Spirit AeroSystems, Loganair, Scotland’s airline and Event Scotland. We are now truly working across Scotland to raise the Scottish International Airshow to a really significant European event. We are attracting visitors from as far away as Prague and Texas who are joining us for this 2 day aviation and entertainment extravaganza.
“The Kelpies have become one of Scotland’s most well-loved and well-known landmarks. We would like to thank Falkirk Council for facilitating the Kelpies arrival in South Ayrshire, this will hopefully provide an added incentive for visitors to this beautiful area over this popular weekend and will encourage a welcome boost for Ayr businesses in the town.”
“The Kelpie Maquettes are magnificent and will be a welcome addition to the Airshow. These iconic creatures have proven to be a popular attraction elsewhere and I am sure they will turn heads in Ayr too. There is so much happening at the Airshow and not just in the skies, we are already attracting people from far and wide and the Kelpies Maquettes are sure to cause a stir. Make sure you don’t miss out on your chance to see these fantastic creations as well as the acrobatic flying at the Scottish International Airshow”; Councillor Douglas Campbell, Leader South Ayrshire Council.
