Following their highly successful sell-out run of Little Women: The Musical, Dumfries Musical Theatre Company are performing the feel-good musical comedy, Sister Act.
Based on the 1992 smash hit film of the same name, Sister Act follows wise-cracking nightclub singer, Deloris van Cartier (Erin Watt) as she is placed in protective custody in a convent after witnessing a murder committed by her gangster boyfriend, Curtis Jackson played by Roy Stairmand.
Disguised as a nun, Deloris finds herself at odds with stern Mother Superior (Joyce Reekie) and develops an unlikely friendship with the gaggle of characterful nuns. There’s young and shy Sister Mary Robert played by Star Murdy, Lauren Grantham in the role of joyful Sister Mary Patrick alongside Sharron Harper as eccentric choir mistress, Sister Mary Lazarus.
In the convent, Deloris reluctantly helps revitalise the tuneless choir with her singing talent, and discovers a sense of community and sisterhood.
The cast includes Hamish Bremner as nice-guy cop “Sweaty” Eddie Souther, who harbours a not-so-secret crush on Deloris, Neil Webster as Monsignor O’Hara the charming spiritual leader hell-bent on saving the church. Colin Williamson, Caitlin Wallace and Jason Reekie are Curtis’s henchmen.
Director, Stewart Cameron cannot wait to share the show with audiences in May, saying:
