This July 4 men from the Stewarty plan to rise to a challenge to raise money for four separate charities. Andrew Chadwick and Richard McLaghlan will both be swimming the full 9 mile length of Loch Ken while Gibb Wallace and David Doherty are doing 4 laps of the loch on their bikes which will be 100miles. After they complete those challenges the 4 of them plan to run to the Stewartry Rugby Club and ROCK the night away with a fundraising BBQ and Dance with live bands and a raffle which will be hosted by Alive 107.3fm Radio presenter ‘Ali Donowho’ for all to come along to and join in.
Andrew Contacted at DGWGO back in January with his plan and asked us to be his media partner for the event, we have since been in contact constantly with Andrew and helped him come up with the name for the challenge and it has been titled ‘SWIM,RIDE AND ROCK THE LOCH’
Andrew told DGWGO
” SWIM – The event will involve myself and Richard swimming the whole 9mile stretch of the loch starting from the Galloway sailing Centre down to the marina in Crossmichael, with 9 people swimming a mile each in a relay alongside us plus we will have canoes and safety boats escorting us.”
“RIDE – The cycling will be similar,Gibb Wallace and David Doherty will be doing 4 laps of the loch totalling 100miles with groups of 4 or 5 cyclists supporting them by doing 1 lap each as a relay with them. We’re hoping to time it so we all finish around the same time at Crossmichael then if we are up to it we will jog to the rugby club as a 4 where our night time event will hopefully have started already.”
“ROCK – The night time event will be hosted by Alive 107.3 FMN radio presenter Ali Donowho, will be no tickets, just a donation at the gate, we have some local bands ( To be announced) playing on stage, with marquees outside. There will be a BBQ too and then later on an auction with some fantastic items that are being donated by local people and businesses. All proceeds from that and sponsorship money are being split four ways between our chosen charities. I’m swimming and raising for cancer research UK, Richard McLaghlan is swimming and raising for Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary Children’s Ward. David Doherty is cycling and raising for the Sands Stillborn charity and Gibb Wallace is cycling and raising for Macmillan.
The Event will take place on the 9th of July 2016 – Further details will be announced on DGWGO over the coming months.
