GAG TRADERS in association with Cairndale Hotel & Leisure Present
Live Comedy Night
Friday July 29th 2016
This month’s show at The Cairndale Hotel and Leisure Centre brings you an eclectic mix of comics from near and far, including none other than Michael Redmond, star of Channel 4’s smash hit sitcom Father Ted, along with up and coming young guns of the Scottish Comedy scene.
MC – Rob Kane
Rob has two great loves in his life, Comedy and Football, but it is fair to say that he is much better at comedy than football.
His Comedy career began when he was encouraged to take part in Viv Gee’s Comedy Course in Strathclyde University. In his first year of performing he got to the final of the prestigious ‘Amused Moose’ competition and since then he has won the ‘Beat the Frog’ in both Manchester and Preston, got to the final of the ‘Scottish Comedian Of The Year’ and had his own solo show at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival
Opening Act – Gareth Waugh
Gareth began performing in July 2010. He has performed all over the UK as well as Australia and has performed 5 shows at the Edinburgh festival.
Reviews
“Potential to be a major player in Scottish if not World comedy in the near future.” –One4review, 2012
“Soon to be a big name” – The Skinny, 201
“Excellent” – Scotsman, 2011
“A particular highlight” – Edinburgh Evening News, 2010
Middle Act – Gareth Mutch
Mutch jokes about the problems that occur in his own life which are mainly either failing with the opposite sex or living with his parents. This show tackles no big issues, political satire or any opinions of his own, but it is funny!
Featured in The Stand’s ‘Best of Scottish’ show. Performed in theatres and clubs all over the UK, including supporting Tom Stade on his last tour.Had a sell-out show at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe and was seen on STV’s Edinburgh Festival 2015.
Closing Act – Michael Redmond
There are not many people who have been struck by lightning and lived to tell the tale. While this may not have actually happened to Michael Redmond himself, it is a fate which befell his character Father Stone – one of the more memorable creations of C4’s classic comedy Father Ted
As skilled a writer as he is a performer, Michael started his career scripting comedy for Irish radio and television. After moving to London in 1987, he quickly established himself as a firm favourite on the comedy circuit, headlining at clubs throughout the UK and later developing his own one-man shows. A regular at major comedy festivals, Michael has performed a number of hugely successful solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, including Eamon, Older Brother of Jesus, which was later developed as a series for R4.
In addition to his live and radio performances, Michael has appeared on a number of high profile TV shows, including “Comedy Nation” (BBC2), “Friday Night Live”(LWT) “The Stand Up Show” (BBC1), “Clive Anderson Talks Back” (BBC1), “Just for Laughs” and of course “Father Ted”(both C4).
