Top Gear returned to our screens last weekend with all the usual crazy banter and exploits but in episode two this Sunday 2nd of February at 8.00pm on BBC 2 things go even faster and crazier.
McLaren has a new hypercar. It’s called the Speedtail, it costs over two million quid, will do 250mph, has a three-seat layout with central driving position, and looks like a spaceship.
In other news, the RAF has a new fighter jet. It’s called the F35B Lightning II, it costs 100 million pounds, will do 1200mph, can land vertically, and has guns. It is, in short, the sort of machine that you’d be utterly daft to challenge to a race. So Chris and Paddy grabbed a McLaren Speedtail and headed to RAF Marham to do exactly that.
Yes, more than a decade after Top Gear’s original car-versus-fighter-jet epic – which saw Richard Hammond pit a Bugatti Veyron against a Eurofighter Typhoon – it’s time for a rematch. A rematch that promises to be even faster, spectacular and more explosive than the last one…
Paddy builds a Dirty Rascal
There’s a new Land Rover Defender on sale, and Paddy McGuinness has already spotted a problem. Stick a few options on it, and the new Defender is, potentially, a seventy grand car. That’s a lot of money for something that’s meant to be a no-nonsense rural runabout. So Paddy took it upon himself to create his own capable-yet-luxurious countryside 4×4. A machine that’ll get you anywhere, and treat you to steaming cup of oxtail soup when you get there.
Introducing… the Dirty Rascal. A go-anywhere expedition vehicle blending the no-nonsense practicality of a Bedford Rascal van with a Daihatsu off-roader. And a dash of ‘provincial town day-spa’ for good measure. And an on-board hot drinks dispenser. All for seven grand.
After testing the Dirty Rascal against its closest rivals at Millbrook proving grounds, Paddy was ordered to take it to Scotland for a race against Britain’s ultimate off-road machines. The Special Forces.
