Locally Produced Limited Edition Rum Released For 40th Anniversary Of Nith Inshore Rescue

Dumfries and Galloway based, Ninefold Distillery has teamed up with Nith Inshore Rescue to release a limited charity edition of just 100 bottles of a unique Scottish barrel aged rum to support Nith Inshore Rescue and help celebrate 40 years of lifeboat service.

The partnership with Ninefold Distillery from Dormont Home Farm, Dalton, was inspired by the long history between rum and the sea, including the history of navy sailors being given a daily tot of rum from 1655 until the ration was abolished in 1970.

Gwilym Gibbons, Treasurer and Crew Member of Nith Inshore Rescue said: “Thanks to the generous support of Ninefold Distillery, all profits from this one-off charity sale will be donated to our Glencaple based independent Lifeboat”.

The limited-edition rum will go on sale exclusively through the Ninefold Distillery website from 9th November for £100 per bottling, including an auction of the first five bottles that were filled from the cask to raise additional funds for the Lifeboat charity. Each of these five bottles also come in a beautiful handmade presentation box crafted from local driftwood and donated by Dumfriesshire woodworker Kenny Henry. The special bottle design was inspired by satellite imagery of the upper Solway Firth by Edinburgh based Ed Bell Design who also kindly donated their time to support the Lifeboat.

Gwilym Gibbons added: “It has been great working with Ninefold Distillery to create a unique and beautiful product for such a great cause. Our partnership started over two years ago to time the release of our special rum for Christmas in our 40th year. Along the way the Crew have helped cask the rum, bottle and of course sample the final product for quality assurance purposes only”.

Dr Kit Carruthers, Ninefold Distillery said: “I was delighted to be approached by Nith Inshore Rescue to collaborate on a charity rum sale, given the historic and cultural links between rum and the sea. The one-off bottling is a two year old cask matured rum, made entirely from scratch at Ninefold Distillery near Lockerbie. With 21 months ageing in virgin oak before finishing for three months in ex-oloroso whisky casks used for Islay and Speyside single malts, the charity bottling is a bold and rich cask strength rum with buttery, fruity and smoky notes.”
