Moore’s Fish & Chips in Castle Douglas has been named as one of the UK’s 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways 2021/2022 – one of only two in Dumfries & Galloway and one of nine in Scotland.
It follows two rounds of mystery dining by leading trade publication Fry Magazine in which an anonymous judge sampled the food and assessed key aspects of the business from the cleanliness of the premises to staff knowledge and professionalism to social media presence.
With the pass mark set high at 96%, Moore’s scored an impressive 96.5% with the mystery diner particularly praising the

“The chips were perfect, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside as proper chips should be,” was just some of the positive comments, alongside customer service with the mystery diner noting: “The staff were friendly and efficient in their service.” And “The ordering system on the website is excellent.”
Andrew Moore, owner, of Moore’s, said: “I am very proud of my staff and being in the top 50 is great recognition of their hard work. It is also great to get some good news after the past couple of years being stuck in the pandemic.”
