15 Year old S4 Kirkcudbright Academy pupil Maya Johnston won the title of Dumfries and Galloway ‘Rotary Young Chef 2018’ at the area finals held last week at Dalbeattie Learning Campus and hosted by Dalbeattie Rotary.
Maya’s winning menu included a starter of polenta chips with a butter bean ragu, followed by a main course of chicken stuffed with homemade pesto and mozzerela wrapped in parma ham with crushed potatoes and vegtables with a cream sauce.
Runner up was Kirkcudbright Academy S4 Student Stephen Dale-Sunley, who also won the prize for the best table setting.
Both Maya and Stephen will now go on to the District Finals at Livingston in February.
The judges Tom Kirkpatrick and Martin Avey had a most difficult task with the standards being exceptionally high. Eight students participated from Lockerbie, Moffatt, Annan, Dumfries and Kirkcudbright.
Assistant District Governor Keith Bruce presented the prizes.
