The Borderlands Whisky Festival: A Brand New Whisky Festival For Dumfries & Galloway
Whisky enthusiasts, from both sides of the border, are set to embark on an exceptional experience at the inaugural Borderlands Whisky Festival.
Taking place on Saturday, 12th October 2024, at the historic Lockerbie Town Hall, this festival promises to be an unforgettable celebration of the rich heritage and craft, not only of distilleries nestled in the border regions, but also of whisky producers from further afield.
For the first time in Lockerbie, 30 distilleries and independent bottlers, from both Scotland and England, will gather under one roof to showcase and offer a diverse range of whisky from the border regions and beyond.

In addition, there’ll be a programme of engaging masterclasses led by industry experts from Moffat, Glasgow, The Borders and Ad Gefrin distilleries.
The all-female led team behind the hugely successful, award winning Fife Whisky Festival decided to bring their passion for whisky, and their expertise in creating highly acclaimed, sold-out whisky events, to the town of Lockerbie.
Co-founders Karen Somerville and Justine Hazlehurst are always keen to share their passion for whisky while upholding their festival ethos of benefitting the local community.
Karen Somerville said “Some of the proceeds of the new Borderlands Whisky Festival will be donated to two local charities: Lockerbie Men’s Shed and Dumfriesshire & Stewartry Women’s Aid. It’s important to us that we give back to the community and support these worthwhile causes”
“The Borderlands Whisky Festival aims to celebrate whisky with the people of Lockerbie while attracting visitors to boost the local economy,” said Justine Hazlehurst
“We’re not only showcasing great whisky but also Lockerbie’s hospitality, creating a win-win for whisky enthusiasts and local businesses alike.”
As well as shining a spotlight on local distilleries such as Bladnoch and Annandale, festival go-ers will have the opportunity to sample a diverse range of whiskies from much further afield. Renowned distilleries such as Ardnamurchan and White Peak will be amongst the many exhibitors on the day.
Getting to the Borderlands Whisky Festival couldn’t be easier thanks to direct trains from Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Carlisle, as well as good bus connections from nearby towns. Anyone travelling by train can show their train ticket on the day to receive a £5 voucher to use in the festival shop.
Drawing inspiration from the renowned Fife Whisky Festival, the Borderlands Whisky Festival promises a friendly, welcoming, vibrant atmosphere for anybody wishing to celebrate the Water of Life.
