#SupportLiveMusicDG

Dumfries & Galloway has a thriving industry and music scene playing host to incredible local musicians with worldwide acclaim and creating a culture in the region that has inspired young and upcoming musicians throughout the years.

The best music nights don’t start in stadiums or arenas, grassroots venues and rural spaces have played a pivotal role in the development of our culture and music industry throughout history. The region has incredible spaces in each local community and the Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival and their new groundbreaking initiative UP YER AIRTS are campaigning for their to be more recognition and support for the music industry in the region.

As a region, Dumfries & Galloway often gets missed off national tour dates and is seen as a road to the Central Belt in Scotland. However the region plays host to many incredible spaces that can hold up to 900 people and counting as venues are being developed in the region and organisations like UP YER AIRTS want to be at the forefront of supporting a music scene that offers inspiration for future generations and supports the incredible local musicians who call this region home.

Nurturing local talent and providing opportunities and inspiration for new and upcoming acts is what will secure a future for the industry for generations to come and UP YER AIRTS is a groundbreaking new initiative empowering young people to curate vibrant cultural events and refine their craft as arts and creative industry professionals in Dumfries & Galloway.

As an organisation led by young people, they are out to push the boundaries of what is possible for the region and supporting the incredible grassroots music culture of the region while working to make sure Dumfries & Galloway is recognised as an area of artistic importance for national musicians. As part of the 2024 Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival are putting on a Triple Bill Show at the newly refurbished Loreburn Hall on Thursday 30th May at 7.30pm.

With acts including VALTOS, who have taken the Trad and Electronic music worlds by storm and have captivated audiences at festivals across the world and sold-out venues nationwide. They’ve also got incredible new upcoming band DLÙ who are passionate about keeping their Gaelic culture alive and bring their eclectic musical backgrounds to create their innovative and distinctive sound.

As well as bringing together two incredible national bands, UP YER AIRTS are also supporting local band Tiderays, a Scottish indie rock band led by Eddie Oakes, who as festival veterans have rocked stages across Scotland and are making a triumphant return to the touring scene across Scotland.

The team behind UP YER AIRTS are also supporting young people to work on all aspects of the event, from Stage Management to Front of House and Technical Crew so that they can learn the skills to ensure that the region has the knowledge and the drive to bring events back to the heart of our towns and villages.

The young people behind the project are so excited to be working on this event. The team are urging local communities to get behind the project to ensure that they can continue their work offering young people opportunities to develop a career in the industry and support the local music economy. So they can bring more national acts to the region to support the sector’s development.

Liam Russell, Creative Producer of UP YER AIRTS:

“We are looking to support the revival of the music scene in Dumfries. What better way to do this than put on a gig featuring a selection of emerging projects from across Scotland, in one of the most exciting new venues in the town. Support live music.”

The team also gratefully acknowledged their support so far from The Holywood Trust, National Lottery Young Start, SOSE Createch Fund, Developing the Young Workforce Dumfries & Galloway and The People’s Project, Dumfries.

Dumfries & Galloway has a strong history of curating events in spaces from town halls to outdoor festivals and communities rallying together to platform the incredible stories of our region and by ensuring that nationally the region is recognised as an area of significant artistic importance, it will further strengthen the support for local communities in this area and offer a new generation career paths and opportunities as well as supporting the economic development of the region.
