Vancouver-based artist Madelyn Read, whose music seamlessly blends urban sensibilities with the rustic charm of Folk/Americana, is excited to announce her upcoming tour of the UK – and she’ll be making a stop on October 11 in Dumfries, playing The Coach & Horses.
Madelyn Read’s unique sound has captivated audiences with its deep roots in rural storytelling, a passion that has been a cornerstone of her music despite her urban upbringing. Her journey took a significant turn in 2019 when she collaborated with Louise Burns of Lillix. This partnership led to the creation of Madelyn’s track “How Easy,” which Louise produced at 604 Studios in Vancouver.
Madelyn’s new record, “Concrete Country,” represents a modern take on Canadiana, exploring what it means to navigate life in a North American city in the 21st century. This new collection of songs is poignant and evokes the sensation of a solitary train ride through the prairies that ends in the vibrant energy of a downtown core. “Concrete Country” is a heartfelt tribute to home, resonating with both love and frustration, and has captivated fans of folk music everywhere.
Joining Madelyn on this tour is the talented Madeleine Elkins, a versatile guitarist, singer, and banjoist known for her work with various projects including Madelyn Read, Meredith Louise, and Maddisun. Madeleine will share insights into her experiences in teaching and touring, as well as her thoughts on the evolution of physical versus digital media. Raised in New Westminster, Madeleine’s story includes her early introduction to the guitar and her reflections on her parents’ diverse musical tastes.
Fans across the UK can look forward to a series of performances that promise to blend Madelyn Read’s evocative storytelling with Madeleine Elkins’ instrumental expertise, creating an unforgettable live experience.
