Popping up at The Stove Café in Dumfries from 9am – 3pm, until Friday 20th December, Circa 16 have created a brand-new listening experience for people to escape their busy lives, to take time to sit and enjoy a special selection of vinyl records on high quality playback.
The project provides access to a dedicated listening set-up of a record player,
headphones and seated area providing a space to stop and listen to specially
curated high-quality records, spanning 7 decades of music.
10 Cuts Club has evolved out of Circa 16’s listening party events which ran back in
the early days of the studio and their mission to make quality listening experiences
available to everyone in the community. They want to encourage people to give
dedicated listening a shot, whether they might be seeking out new music,
discovering or rediscovering vinyl as a format or just escaping the hustle and bustle
of every day modern life, it is a chance to be present in the moment for 45 minutes.
This first edition of the listening experience has been curated by studio founder,
Dave Miller.
Dave is a well-known face across Dumfries & Galloway as a
professional sound engineer, producer and musician. With nearly two decades
working in the live music industry in the region and internationally, the project is your
chance to get an insight into Dave’s personal music collection and his favourite
tracks as everyone’s go-to sound engineer in Dumfries & Galloway.
Dave Miller stated: “In the days of streaming playlists and a dominance of singles
against the shrinking of the album as a format in modern music, I think it is important
to be able to celebrate bodies of work and promote listening as a dedicated
experience or activity. It’s such a great counter to the pace and of life in 2024!”
10 Cuts Club will pop up in different locations across the region over the next year
with special guest curators showcasing their favourite 10 records.
10 Cuts Club is open to all and free of charge, there will be pointers on how to use
the equipment so even if people have no prior experience listening to vinyl, they can
still enjoy the experience.
There will be a guestbook at the station where participants
can leave their thoughts and build a community around listening to music and having
shared experiences over the month.
