Corroboree (cor|robo¦ree) Gathering of Aboriginal people to celebrate culture and heritage
Corroboree is an art festival celebrating people, indigenous culture and ecological diversity among the Commonwealth Nations.
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) will be celebrating our place in the heart of the Commonwealth with events at all our Gardens and at Glasgow Botanic Garden over the summer. The events are 1 a 1 a logan 3timed to coincide with The Queen’s Baton Relay as this moves around the country in advance of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Australian performance artists Ariel Killick and Jillibalu will animate our Logan, Dawyck and Edinburgh Gardens with a specially devised walkabout interactive performance on stilts that will celebrate indigenous culture and ecological diversity among the Commonwealth Nations. The performance will be in Gaelic, an Aboriginal language and English and will reference traditional mythologies and arts of both cultures.
Maori artist and tradition-bearer Veranoa Hetet will demonstrate traditional weaving using natural fibres drawn from the New Zealand flora and will be sharing ideas and inspiration with members of the Scottish Basketmakers’ Circle.

Watch Australian performance artists Ariel Killick and Jillibula in a walkabout performance, on stilts, highlighting the importance of shared cultures. Visit Veranoa Hetet demonstrating traditional Maori weaving techniques. Veranoa will be working alongside Scottish artists Treavor Leat, John Cowan and members of the Scottish Basketmakers’ Circle.
