Dumfries and Galloway Council want to know what you think about their support for major festivals and events, any benefits for your community and what you’d like to see happen in the future.
The Council delivers the Strategy in partnership with VisitScotland (which now includes EventScotland), regional Chambers of Commerce, the Chamber of Arts and the Crichton Institute. The Strategy is unique within Scotland and is aligned with the national events strategy.
Spokes Person Sid Ambrose said ” We need your feedback on how DG Council can best support festivals and events to grow and develop. Times are tough with the recent controversy over police charges, the Brexit vote and maybe even the presidential election might become a factor. In my time with Wickerman it was Icelandic Volcanoes and Swine Flu which were the external threats, however as always l digress, to get the official line read below and follow the link. Thanks to Chloe Adams for this old survey pic.”
The aim is to grow a number of festivals and events in Dumfries and Galloway to national and international prominence. The annual budget for the strategy is £250,000 and its impacts are carefully monitored.
The Strategy has helped to fund major regular events such as the Wigtown Book Festival, Wickerman, Spring Fling, the Tour of Britain, the Arts Festival, Big Burns Supper, the Scottish Rally and Galloway Hills Rally, the Eden Festival and Electric Fields. The Strategy has also funded one-off events such as World Championship Ice Hockey and World Curling tournaments as well as International Sheep Dog Trials and many more.
The consultation ends at 5pm on Friday 11 November and we’re unable to accept responses after this date.
