Dumfries Accordion And Fiddle Club Get Set For 2024 Season

The new season for the Dumfries Accordion and Fiddle Club commences on the first Tuesday in September, Tuesday 3rd at The Crichton Golf Club Dumfries when Michael Phillip and his Scottish Dance Band will be the Guest artistes.

Compere and secretary of the Dumfries Accordion and Fiddle Club John Caskie and the committee have secured the services of some of the countries top accordion and fiddle players to give a fine mix of guest artistes through out the season which runs from September through until April.

September guest Michael Phillip is no stranger to accordion and fiddle club audiences playing regular on the music scene, with his Fife based band. Michael was guest at the Dumfries Club many years ago before he rehomed in Shetland for a few years, however, now back on the Scottish mainland, Michael and the band are firm favourites where ever they play.

During the Covid years and the lockdown period, Michael took to the internet, and played a tune each day from his home in Markinch, dressed in his jammies (pyjamas), and had a tremendous following for his music he called ‘tunes in my jammies’ Michael has assured the Dumfries audience, he might play some of the tunes he composed and played during that period, but he’ll be fully clothed, and the pyjamas can await his return home after his performance in Dumfries.

Local, visiting and supporting artistes playing accordion, fiddle, drums, mouth organ, tin whistle, and even spoons will be made most welcome and all invited to play prior to the guest artiste spots.

The evening commences at 7pm and will again be held in the Crichton Golf Club by kind permission of Craig Patterson and Golf Club members.

The Dumfries season will continue with Fin Hope playing in October, Arbroath accordionist in November and Roddy Matthews and his Tweed Ceilidh Band guesting in December. Full syllabus cards with guest artistes for the full season will be available for uplift on Tuesday 3rd September, although committee members will be distributing at events up until then.
