New D&G Events Toolkit is Just the Ticket for Tourism and the Voluntary Sector

Dumfries and Galloway Council has published a new practical guide to organising festivals and events.

 

The Events Toolkit is aimed at the voluntary sector and has been written as a step by step guide for people new to events organisation, who are keen to develop community based festivals, sports and arts projects.

 

Councillor Colin Smyth, The Council’s Events Champion said;

 

“The Council has recently worked with many different stakeholders to research and launch our new Tourism Strategy, and the value of festivals and events is fully recognised within this Strategy.

 

The Council’s Events Toolkit is a further step towards Dumfries and Galloway being the leading rural destination in Scotland to plan as well as manage and visit events. The Toolkit is informative and accessible, and demonstrates the Council’s determination to provide a customer focussed service to event’s organisers in our region.”

 

Anne Barclay, Operational Director of the Wigtown Book Festival said;

 

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of Wigtown Book Festival and so many other events taking place across Dumfries and Galloway.  We’re delighted to support the launch of the new Events Toolkit which provides useful information for event organisers from budgeting to licensing and we’re pleased to see the importance of in kind contributions such as volunteer support highlighted, without which Wigtown Book Festival could not take place.”

 

Susan McLellan, Lead Officer for Volunteering, Third Sector, Dumfries and Galloway said;

 

“Third Sector, Dumfries and Galloway are pleased to work in partnership with the Council in promoting the significance of the events toolkit.  Recognising the value of engaging volunteers in event planning and delivery ensures that the broader contribution of the third sector remains at the forefront of our aims to support a vibrant, more enterprising sector that will ultimately result in stronger communities within Dumfries and Galloway.”

 

Dumfries and Galloway Council is currently delivering with a range of agencies Scotland’s only Major Festivals and Events Strategy, 2014-2017. The Strategy generates more than £10m a year for the regional economy.
