Dumfries MC Tom Spirals Features in New Samson Sounds Single

The formidable five-piece Afro-dub powerhouse, Samson Sounds producing out of Glasgow, release a brand-new single, Chatterbox, with Dumfries MC Tom Spirals.

Chatterbox, which was first presented on the main stage at the renowned Eden Festival in the Galloway hills had audiences gripped in melodic brassy bass lines and gleaming triumphant horn sections from Samson Sounds with an energetic Spirals on the mic.

The track has since been picked up by Radio 1 Extra’s David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan following its national release and fan can also look forward to the highly anticipated music video being released in the next few weeks.

Samson Sounds said: ‘This infectious treat of the senses is perhaps the happiest song you are likely to hear today, if not this week, if not the whole entire year. Its patois mixed with the Glasgow patter, huge horn riffs, foot stomping beats and it’s an Afrocentric adventure with Ska mentality and you will love it’’

This collaboration with Tom Spirals has been in a year in the making and hails new touring opportunities for both Samson Sounds and Tom Spirals as the track gathers traction across the UK and beyond.

As one of the UK’s emerging artists in the reggae and ska scene, Tom’s unique sound has not been short of high demand. Through real talk lyrics, energy and a deep-rooted connection to the power of music and culture, Tom’s sound has carried him across the globe to present with respected producers in Europe, South America and most recently an international tour to Australia with sound system giants, Mungo’s Hi-Fi

Partners in crime Samson Sounds was originally founded as a reggae soundsystem in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway. Formed in 2008 by Anders Rigg and Xander Gisbey, it was used across the region for event and parties alike, playing the new sounds of Dubstep and the old sounds of Roots Rock Reggae. In 2010 the soundsystem moved to Glasgow while the two boys were studying and the first Samson productions started to come out in force.

After 3 years of writing new material and touring the last album Owen Docherty also shifted roles out of the band leaving a gap in the vocals. For 2018 this resulted in both William and Anders taking to the mic in the band with William writing Mad Game (Burn the Whole Place Down). It also saw the arrival of 4 guest vocalists t join the touring party; Breezy Lee, MC B-Side, Longfingah (GER) and Tom Spirals.

Chatterbox is available to stream from Spotify and Boom Sound Recordings.

Since 2015, I’ve been based in Glasgow and I’ve been working as a solo vocalist and I’ve been blessed to hone my craft alongside Scottish legends, Mungo’s HiFi. For the last 4 years, I have been building up a portfolio of releases, making connections everywhere I can and I’m almost permanently on tour; from Australia to Austria, Bordeaux to Byron bay, I’m really grateful to experience life on the road and everything that comes with it!
