Dumfries Music Conference (DMC), which has been organising educational music events in Dumfries and Galloway since 2012, has unveiled a mentoring programme aimed at young people (aged 16-30) who are interested in pursuing a career in the music industry. DMC will present three professional development courses, which will be led by experts from the local area.
The one-to-one mentoring programmes will cover: Audio Engineering, Live Sound, Studio Recording; Live Music Photography and Social Media; and Music Curation, Management and Production.
DMC’s mentoring programmes, which can be arranged to suit the mentors and students, will run during August, September and October. Each one will amount to at least 24-hours of mentoring – typically split across four six-hour sessions.
The audio course will be led by Dave Miller, and there are two positions available. Dave is a freelance audio engineer, with 10 years of professional experience and three years of academic study behind him. He has experience in a range of musical genres and event types – for audiences as large as 12,000 people – and has worked extensively mixing front of house for concert material and has toured national and internationally with a range of artists.
Kirstin McEwan will be leading the Live Music Photography and Social Media Course. Kirstin is a freelance photographer and marketing manager based in Dumfries & Galloway. Since 2016, Kirstin has been working for the Stove Network on marketing and social media as well as documentation of events. She is also the resident photographer and digital marketing manager for DMC.
The Music Curation, Management and Production course will be taken by Martin O’Neill. Martin is an artist, musician and graduate of Theatre Directing from Queen Margaret University. He has worked as an actor, director, writer and artistic collaborator with the National Theatre of Scotland, and is the founder of Brave New Words – a monthly spoken word and music event held The Stove, Dumfries.
As these are one-to-one mentoring courses, places are extremely limited. If you are interested in taking one of the courses please contact [email protected] by Friday 10th August.
