It’s looking like it’s going to be a busy March at the Cairndale Hotel with the hotel hosting the Dumfries Jazz Weekend on the 20th/21st/22nd March 2020.
Although it’s now been several years since Dumfries Jazz Club held their regular Club Nights in town this hasn’t meant there hasn’t been any interest in the Jazz scene and more recently the mantle has been carried by local bands like STRUMSUM who have played gigs the length and breadth of the region and beyond.
The apparent demise of the Lockerbie Jazz Festival and a lack of funding would also seem to have been an issue for Jazz lovers and it’s hoped that a Jazz Weekend centred in Dumfries will help to re-kindle the interest in Jazz locally and if successful more events are planned in the hotel.
Fraser Milligan of the Strumsum Blues Band has been instrumental in seeing the return of a major new event in his home town of Dumfries and together with Katy Clachan (Ayr Jazz Club and Stranraer Jazz Festival) and Mike Daly of the Dixieland Rhythm Kings they have collectively come up with a fantastic line up for the Weekend in March.
Headlining bands appearing at the Dumfries based weekend will include HAVANA SWING (Dundee) MIKE DALY’S DIXIELAND RHYTHM KINGS (Ayr) SAVANNAH JAZZ BAND (Yorkshire) and BABY JOOLS AND THE JAZZAHOLICS.
Also appearing over the weekend will be TOM KINCAID a renowned Jazz pianist and versatile composer who will be joined with his “3 bears”. Tom plays a diverse repertoire of mainstream swing and jazz standards, rock n’ roll and blues, traditional and New Orleans… Sought after for his piano style Tom has performed in many prestigious venues worldwide including Ronnie Scott’s, The Ritz Hotel and Lion’s Den (New York) as well as in various international Jazz Festivals.
It’s a real bonus to find that Tom will be performing on both the Saturday and Sunday of the Dumfries Jazz Weekend.
