A Dumfries and Galloway village famed for its festivals is going to ban electricity and create a day of music and voices without the aid of amplifiers.
Moniaive, 15 miles from Dumfries, won Creative Scotland’s
£50,000 Creative Place Award last June and immediately launched a two-year programme of events and ideas under the banner Expect The Unexpected.
“Totally Acoustic” will be the theme on Saturday 18th June. From 2pm till late, choirs will hold workshops and give evening performances. Buskers, bands and artists will roam the village, giving everyone the chance to switch off computers and sound systems for a while and listen to acoustic and choral music as it should be heard… in the quiet.
There will be an organised evening performance and no doubt plenty of jam-sessions. As it grows dark, residents will ‘power down’ lights and noise, as local images are projected onto village buildings.
There’s time to get involved. Would your choir or one you know like to take part? Can YOUR guitar cope without electricity and plug in to community culture? Ideas, as well as performers are welcome.
Sounds good?
