Dumfriesshire soprano Claudia Wood returns to the region to take part in this year’s Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival.
Claudia will be joined by colleagues from The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Scottish tenor Ross Wilson and pianist Conal Bembridge- Sayers, to perform a programme featuring popular operatic arias, song, duets and musical theatre. Also during the evening, award-winning pianist Conal, will perform the intermezzo of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut.
Originally from Sanquhar, Claudia attended Wallace Hall Academy, and worked for Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary until she took up a scholarship at Birmingham Conservatoire to pursue an operatic career.
Claudia, is now completing her postgraduate studies in Cardiff and is looking forward to joining the Extra Chorus of Opera Frankfurt during their 2017/18 season.
Recent performances include performing with Midland Opera to high acclaim, with Birmingham Post remarking: “the bright bell-like soprano of Claudia Wood (Nedda) delivering some of the most compelling singing of the night.”
Claudia will reprise this role in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, later this summer in France, during Festi’Val Valois.
An Evening of Opera and Song takes place in St John’s Church, Dumfries, on Saturday, 3 June 2017, at 7pm.
