Razorbills to Blood Bikers – a Second Stunning Maidens of Music Weekend

From the Razorbills to the Blood Bikers, the second weekend of the month-long Maidens of Music festival is about to kick off in Dumfries.

There will be music and song of all types, including choirs, bands and solo performers playing everything from folk and rock to country and classical.

But what really marks the festival out is that it is a celebration of female musical talent – designed to showcase and encourage.

Perhaps the youngest this weekend will be 12-year-old solo singer Isla Cooper who has previously entertained guests at the Annan Riding of the Marches Café Chantant.

Then there will be Kirkcudbrightshire folk rock act The Razorbills who have been together seven years and have released a string of recordings. Meanwhile the celebrated Blood Bikers Choir will “bring a bit of grit” to the art of choral singing.

One of the acts from the weekend will also be chosen to go forward to the finals of the festivals Maiden of Music 2017 competition.

Carol Brotherston, one of the event organisers, said: “Week one was fantastic and we are looking forward to an even bigger, louder and more entertaining weekend ahead. The range of music is fantastic and we hope that lots of people will turn out to show their support for all these wonderfully talented men and women.”

The festival was run as a one-off last year, but was so popular that organisers Carol, Jo Blain and Linzie Watson, decided to stage it again.

Most of the festival events are free and they are taking place at venues across Dumfries. This weekend they are at The Globe Close and The Usual Place.
