Prize winners from the DAVAWP song writing competition will perform at Youth Beatz this Saturday.
Performers will include Ben Stubbs, winner in 2014 with Need to Run; MR McNeil with This Little Girl;
, runner-up in 2011 with You’re Not Alone.
Ben Stubbs, 2014 winner, said, “I found out about the competition through school and wanted to write a song about the seriousness of domestic abuse and promote the fact that there is help available. The experience of the song writing competition was great and getting the opportunity to play at Youth Beatz is amazing.”
DAVAWP (Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women Partnership), in partnership with the Council, has run a song writing competition for the last 5 years, attracting talented young musicians who wanted to add their voices to local campaigns against gender based violence.
DAVAWP is running its song writing competition again this year. Prizes include:
• First Prize: £400 + A recording session at Oasis Centre (Dumfries) and the opportunity for the first prize winner to play their winning song at Youth Beatz 2016
• Second Prize: £200
• Third Prize: £100
• An extra £50 prize for the most innovative song making links between forms of violence (for more info, see Item 11 of the competition rules on the back of the entry form)
Young people (up to 25 years old) can enter as a soloist, duo, or band, with any and all music styles being welcome.
The closing date for entries is Thursday 29 October 2015 at 5pm (1700).
