SUMMER SERENADE TO SUPPORT THE MOAT BRAE, BIRTH PLACE OF PETER PAN

Summer Serenade to support the Birthplace of Peter Pan
A group of highly talented, locally-based musicians are getting together to perform a special fundraising concert for the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust at Dumfries Academy on Sunday 22nd June from 8pm – 9pm, but members of the audience for this Summer Serenade will also have a chance to look around Moat Brae house and garden and enjoy a pre-concert drink in the Birthplace of Peter Pan beforehand.
The audience is invited to gather at Moat Brae from 7pm to experience the atmosphere and architecture of this fine Georgian property and its ‘enchanted garden’ by the river Nith. The Solway Sinfonietta and conductor Geoff Keating will then perform at the adjacent Minerva Hall in Dumfries Academy. JM Barrie, author of Peter Pan, attended the school in the 1870’s, making it a fitting venue for this concert of light classical music which will include Albinoni’s Sinfonia in G, Purcell’s String Pieces, Dagwiren’s Serenade and Bartok’s Romanian Dances.
This special fundraising event is a great opportunity to see what has been achieved in the first phase of works to secure the structural integrity of Moat Brae. The building was saved from neglect, vandalism and demolition by the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust and its patron Joanna Lumley, in 2009. It will also be a chance to find out more about plans to turn it into an international visitor attraction and centre for children’s literature and storytelling, due to open in 2017.
The evening is organised by Friends of The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust who are keen to encourage as many people as possible to support Moat Brae and get involved in the work to open the next chapter for this special House and Garden in Dumfries. Author JM Barrie found it an inspiring place, playing pirate games there as a child which he said were the genesis of his masterwork Peter Pan.
Attending this evening of light summer entertainment is an easy way to support the Trust and find out more about its work. Anyone who enjoys light music and is interested in Moat Brae is welcome to join the many supporters of the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust for what promises to be a lovely evening.
Tickets for the Summer Serenade, priced £12 (including complimentary drink, strawberries and shortbread), are available from Midsteeple Dumfries (01387 253 383). You can also book tickets and find out more about Moat Brae and the work of the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust at www.peterpanmoatbrae.org
