The Gallovidian Gatherings Set To Make A Return

Following on from the success of their sold out events in May and December 2023, the UP YER AIRTS crew are ready to host their Summer Solstice gig at Castle Douglas Town Hall on Saturday 22nd June and transform the hall like you’ve never seen it before.

UP YER AIRTS is at the forefront of supporting a music scene that offers inspiration for future generations and creates a platform for the incredible local artists that call this region home.

The majority of the creative team organising these events are young people however the event has become a staple in the region for bringing an intergenerational team together with the older generation passing on knowledge, skills and stories to the next generation to continue flying the flag for keeping the alternative culture thriving in Dumfries & Galloway.

The team are ready to platform Sound Systems culture in a community that has always had its culture at its roots and made it such a big part of their heritage. Headlining the night will be Mungo’s Hi Fi. Mungo’s love Soundsystems culture to the core, from its Jamaican roots to raves, club and festivals.

When performing as DJs, playing on their heavy weight soundsystem, producing music, collaborating with vocalists and releasing artists  on their label, Scotch Bonnet, they create a uniquely uplifting experience.

Dougie No Pain, Craigy Wonder, Breezak Bass and Tommy Danger are the Scottish Collective known as Mungo’s Hi Fi and they are bringing along the incredible Aziza Jaye, Parly B and Tom Spirals to MC for the night.

UP YER AIRTS have also partnered with Be United, a beacon in the Scottish Arts sector, they advocate for diverse talent within the thriving performing arts, screen and events sector in Scotland, amplifying Scotland’s Black creative voices. Joining Mungo’s Hi Fi on the night, will be amazing Eyve and Sean Focus.

Eyve’s music is a unique blend of hip hop, trap, jazz and her African roots and she is committed to bringing her authenticity and realness to her craft. Eyve writes songs based on her own life experiences, social and political issues. Being a passionate advocate for gender equality and inclusivity, particularly for women and non-binary individuals.

Sean Focus is one of the most promising artists in the UK, Zimbabwean born, Edinburgh based artist connecting Africa to the UK and mixing melodic vocals and beats to his Afro-Fusion sound. The stage is said to be his playground and you’ll not come out of one of his shows unentertained. One of the fastest growing Scottish artists on the scene he has been heavily supported by BBC 1Xtra, Apple Music Radio, Capital Xtra & BBC Introducing with tastemakers DJ Target, Kenny Allstar & Charlie Sloth supporting his releases.

UP YER AIRTS are again supporting the local Soundsystems crew, who have been learning how to build their own soundsystems, how to make beats and DJ and UP YER AIRTS are providing the next step giving the crew a platform to share their music at the Gatherings and they’ve become a local favourite with their incredible skills to get the night going.

The team are excited to bring these high-quality acts to people’s doorsteps at an affordable price and bringing music back into community spaces; decentralising music to the communities around Dumfries & Galloway and ensuring that everyone is able to access culture and that it’s something everyone can get involved in.

Historically, the town halls and community spaces of Dumfries & Galloway would have been bustling with discos and artists visiting on their national tours and the team at UP YER AIRTS want to bring back that platform that allows local musicians to perform and make connections with established touring artists.

Nurturing local talent and providing opportunities and inspiration for new and upcoming acts is what will secure a future for the industry for generations to come and UP YER AIRTS is a groundbreaking new initiative empowering young people to curate vibrant cultural events and refine their craft as arts and creative industry professionals in D&G.

The team also gratefully acknowledged their support so far from The Holywood Trust, National Lottery Young Start, SOSE Createch Fund, Developing the Young Workforce Dumfries & Galloway and The People’s Project, Dumfries.

The Gallovidian Gatherings have always been a sell out success in Castle Douglas and this one is sure to be no different, audiences are advised to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
