MSP for the South of Scotland Emma Harper visited The Music Room in Dumfries to offer her support to the project, which has proved to be a valuable resource to those who wish to learn a musical instrument.
Carol Brotherston who started The Music Room, is looking to develop the building which will cost around £300,000. This will allow for essential works to be completed, and will open a second floor which will develop The Music Room into a “centre for the performing and creative arts” which will include drama, dance, comedy, theatre, music, photography, videography, a recording studio, practice rooms and teaching. The Music Room plan on fundraising the money to complete the work.
Carol started the project in April 2015 and since then has witnessed The Music Room grow beyond expectation. She has various musical instructors providing lessons, and holds live lounges which have been attended by musicians from all over the UK. She also arranged a “Maidens of Music” event, which celebrates women in music. The Music Room has also arranged events such as “The Wee Burns Supper” and have secured a bi-monthly slot on Alive Radio to showcase emerging talent from The Music Room.
Commenting, Emma Harper said:
“The Music Room is a fantastic project set up by Carol who is a very talented musician, and has provided many opportunities to those who have approached her for musical tuition. The Music Room is currently a non-profit making project, which would be capable of achieving so much more. Carol has many great ideas and I would like to see these come to life.
“The Music Room have written a musical comedy called “Around The Globe” which they will be taking to the Theatre Royal this December. The show has already sold out five times this year and they will be taking it to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I urge people to support local talent and to go and watch show.
“I wish The Music Room every success with their future plans, and I have offered Carol my full support. I would like to help The Music Room in whatever way I can.”
