Bigger and Better Than Ever – Wigtown Shindy Returns for 2024

First details of this year’s Wigtown Shindy have been unveiled, with the event now extended to offer four days of music and entertainment.

Taking place in the Town Gardens and the Bladnoch Distillery courtyard from 15-18 August it promises more live performers and a bigger mix of musical styles.

Primarily a celebration of local music, from Dumfries and Galloway, there will also be a range of daytime family activities – it will even be embracing the Wigtown School Fete, at the school field on the Saturday.

Among those already signed up to take part are Nathon Jones, Josephine and the Shades, Escapade and Kissing the Flint. There will also be the Driftwood Kippen Ceilidh band.

The fully licenced bar will have a wide selection of local beers, ciders and spirits and there will be a big marquee to stave off the variety of summer weather. There will also be stalls, games and a family picnic.

Matt Kitson, festival director, said: “There are loads of great musicians in the region and the Shindy is here to showcase their talent – and for people to get together and have a good time.
“We’re delighted at how popular The Shindy has become and to be able to extend it to four days of music and family fun for 2024.
“So, make sure it’s in your diary, and come and join us for a fabulous mix of music and entertainment.”

The Shindy started back in 2021 and has become a popular part of the Galloway entertainments calendar.

Last year’s acts included Life O’Reilly, Astoria, heavy metal band Chopperhead, singer songwriter Ferî, trad musicians Jim and Francie, reggae, ska and punk duo The Moot and the Creetown silver band.

The full line-up will be announced in the coming weeks.
