Archives Awareness Week Saturday 19 November – Saturday 27 November
Displays, tours, family history advice and a competition can all be enjoyed as part of Archives Awareness Week in the Ewart Library, Dumfries.
Come and see behind the scenes with the Archivist, Graham Roberts. Tours will take place on Monday 21 November at 10am, 1pm and 3pm. It’s your chance to see some of the treasures of the collections, and ask the questions you’ve always wanted to ask. Places are strictly limited (to 8 per tour) so please sign up in the Archives and Local Studies department in the Ewart Library, by phone at 01387 260285, or by emailing [email protected] .
Family History advice will be available on Monday 21 November between 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm from Erica Johnson, Researcher. Whether you wish to start researching your family tree, or have hit a ‘brick wall’ with your studies, ask Erica!
A competition based on the displays, with the theme ‘Archives as Inspiration’, will be available for the Awareness Week in the Archives and Local Studies Department, and all entrants will receive (tiny) prizes. The winner will receive an archival goody-bag.
Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Communities Committee, Tom McAughtrie said: “This sounds like a great week. Everyone should come and join the fun! Find out about researching using the archives, about the Friends of the Archives and how to join, and about opportunities to volunteer. You may be inspired too…”
